Jan Blazak

janJan started his professional career running several youth centres full time, having qualified as a Youth and Community worker in 1986. Indeed many happy memories include organising open air music festivals and playing BBC EastEnders at football before the last set of austerity cuts in 1992 saw him made redundant along with the rest of the Youth Service.

Jan then worked in an eight bedded residential Intake & Assessment Unit for five years as Deputy Manager. During this period Jan obtained his Social Work qualification and worked tirelessly to try and positively affect the lives of the children placed, facilitating a weekly residents group and a full activity programme.

In 1997 Jan returned to youth work as a District Manager with a different Youth Service and again tried to deliver fun and memories with Youth Exchanges to Palestine/Estonia etc and large scale dance events/radio shows DJ’d by young people. Jan had responsibility for a District Council patch with seven youth centres and over 120 staff.

From 2000 Jan built up a specialism in International Youth work before going freelance in 2004 and working for a variety of clients across Europe including the British Council, SALTO, Connect Youth, Polish National Youth Agency etc delivering training on Diversity and Intercultural learning. Jan delivered a variety of training for youth workers and organised large scale projects for partners.

In 2006 Jan returned to Social Work in the fostering sector where he has worked for the last seven years in a variety of predominantly management roles for a variety of independent sector providers. Jan also has a clear understanding of business management having obtained a level 7 Diploma in Management Studies (Merit) at the University of Worcester in 2011.

However Jan now feels it is time to walk the walk and try to deliver a model of something different, unique and special. Therefore together with Julie Elliott he decided to open an Independent Fostering Agency which will put children’s needs first… all the time… every time…
