I am Dr. Simon Bailey. My specialist field is Educational Psychology. I hold a First Class BSc (Hons) in Psychology and a Doctorate in Applied Child and Educational Psychology and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I currently practise as an Educational and Child Psychologist within Local Authority Children’s Services working primarily in early years settings, mainstream and special schools. I also work in a private capacity for an Independent Fostering Agency.
My professional experience includes the assessment and identification of a wide range of special educational needs and evidence-based targeted intervention. This includes supporting children and young people (2 -19) with learning and literacy difficulties, language and communication needs, social, emotional and behavioural issues, autistic spectrum conditions and physical, medical and sensory needs.
I practise within a consultation model that is child-centred and environmentally focussed in order to support a wide range of professionals from Education, Health and Social Care and parents and carers.
I am passionately committed to the use of psychology in improving the educational experiences of children and young people placed within the care system. I am particularly focussed on promoting children’s access to education and improving their educational achievement and attainment.
I have worked directly with looked after children in schools and continue to support school staff in understanding how attachment based difficulties can present in the educational context, enabling children to take part in learning and be fully included in the life of the school. I consider that as an Educational and Child Psychologist I can play a central role in promoting their social and emotional wellbeing and achieving positive and aspirational outcomes for looked after children.
