Hash Browns

Equipment:

Prep the Potatoes

Wash the potatoes thoroughly to remove any dirt.

Peel the potatoes if desired (you can leave the skin on for added texture and nutrition).

If using an onion, peel and finely chop it.

Grate the Potatoes

Using a box grater or food processor, grate the potatoes. You can use the coarse side of the grater for a chunkier texture or the fine side for a smoother hash brown.

If you grated the potatoes using a food processor, squeeze out excess moisture by placing them in a clean kitchen towel and wringing it tightly.

Season the Potatoes

Place the grated potatoes in a mixing bowl.

Add salt, pepper, and chopped onion if desired. Mix well to combine.

Cook the Hash Browns

Heat the vegetable oil or melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

Once the oil or butter is hot, add the grated potatoes to the skillet, spreading them out evenly.

Press down gently on the potatoes with a spatula to form a compact layer.

Cook the hash browns for about 5-7 minutes on one side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Flip the hash browns using a spatula and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes on the other side, until golden brown and crispy.

If necessary, you can cook them longer for extra crispiness, or shorter if you prefer them softer.

Serve

Once the hash browns are cooked to your liking, transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Serve hot as a side dish for breakfast or brunch, with toppings like ketchup, hot sauce, or sour cream if desired.

Enjoy your homemade hash browns!
