Our small, family-feel agency operates a therapeutic fostering model based on Dyadic Development Practice (DDP) and Social Pedagogy. Children Always First encourage social distancing in and outside the office and provide PPE for all staff. The majority of our workforce is currently working from home or in the office on a rota as to keep numbers low. As this role is responsible for safeguarding vulnerable children, risk-assessed, face-to-face visits to foster carers and children remains an essential part of this role.

Become a Supervising Social Worker with CAF

We are looking for a SWE registered Social Worker to join our happy vibrant team. The successful candidate will have experience of fostering and/or children’s services (LAC). They will be joining a small family-feel agency with no aspirations of world domination and with carer households capped at 60 in order to maintain our family ethos where everyone is someone and everybody matters. As our name suggests we prioritise the needs of children and young people. In addition to our Social Work team we employ a Youth Support Team to work directly with young people, and a full time DDP therapist based in our office. We operate utilising a Therapeutic Parenting model informed by DDP, PACE and Social Pedagogy. We only have one office in Bromsgrove which is our base, but obviously the position will support foster carers across the West Midlands and we operate flexibly according to the needs of the service (Covid) etc. We encourage staff to maintain a work/life balance.

Overview of role and responsibilities:

To provide support and supervision to foster carers

To work closely with any agencies and all staff to match children to families

To attend and produce reports for fostering panel meetings as necessary.

To carry out an annual review of Foster families

To support and attend a foster carer support group as needed.

To contribute to the development of the fostering service

Be willing to work flexibly including evening and weekend work, when required, within the duty rota system or in emergencies.

You will be a qualified social worker and possess:

A DipSW or equivalent

current SWE registration

Good experience within fostering (desirable but not essential as strong experience across children’s services will also be considered)

A car owner / driver

Some flexible working may be needed in order to attend emergencies or to participate in the duty rota as required. Salary is up to £37000 (experience dependent) + mileage at 45ppm + 6% matched pension + benefits

Become a Children Always First Panel Member

We are looking to recruit Panel Members for our fostering panel. Panels are usually hosted monthly, and you will be paid a fee for your attendance. The fostering panel provides independent oversight of the recruitment, assessment and review of foster carers and makes recommendations on their suitability to foster.

If you have personal experience of fostering or adoption you would make an ideal Panel Member. We are specifically seeking Panel Members with the following experience.

Someone from an education background. 

Someone with recent experience of fostering children in either a mainstream or connected person fostering capacity. 

Someone who has personal experience of being a looked after child.

Fostering Panel Vice Chair

We are looking to recruit a vice chair for our fostering panel. Panels are usually hosted monthly, and you will be paid a fee for your attendance. The Vice Chair is an important role within the panel as they will need to be able to step in and chair the panel when the usual Panel Chair is not available. Therefore, you will need to have extensive experience of chairing fostering panels which provides independent oversight of the recruitment, assessment and review of foster carers and makes recommendations on their suitability to foster.
